“a generous gesture”
While the art institutional framework often situates artists in isolation, the curatorial project “a generous gesture” attempts to create connections between artists working individually. This project was inspired by the methodology of “creative response” by the artist group “Every House Has A Door.” The original prompt given to the artists participating in “a generous gesture” was to provide one complete work and to make one new work in response to their partner’s practice. Within the timeframe of one week, eighteen artists from various SAIC graduate programs are paired into nine groups, addressing wide dynamics of collaborative modes and interdisciplinary.
By facilitating cross-departmental connections, “a generous gesture” seeks to establish the conditions for mutual exchange between artists, initiating a dialogue that cannot be fully contained within a two-day exhibition but will continue to unfold.
